““you can really just be whoever you want to be”: a conversation with - Spawncamped”
Most producers can’t pinpoint when it started. spawncamped can: age 10, making beats for Geometry Dash levels. A few years later, around 2019/20, they found the underground scene and picked up a mic, and they haven’t looked back since. they’ve got a catalog that includes “my love,” “left behind,” and “sweet talk,” and there’s a story behind “reject” that only the real ones know. We talked with spawncamped about fighting the TikTok algorithm, the side of the scene nobody warns you about, the collabs they’re dreaming of, and why they’d rather you didn’t press play (we disagree).
When and why did you start making music?
I started making beats for Geometry Dash levels when I was like 10, and got into vocals when I found the underground scene in 2019/20.
What was the first song you ever finished, and what do you think of it now?
I’m not allowed to speak on this one.
“u can really just be whoever u want to be.” - spawncamped
Who’s your favorite artist to work with?
coldwntr and bluchrist, because they actually send me their FLPs so I can fix vocal mixes lol
What’s your favorite song that you’ve made, and why?
It’s between “my love,” “left behind,” and “sweet talk.”
What’s been the hardest part of putting your music out there?
The TikTok algorithm has been doing horribleee for me lately.
What’s something about making music that nobody warned you about?
There are so many weird people and bad actors in this community. People doing things you couldn’t even imagine.
Has a song ever turned out completely different from what you planned?
“reject” was supposed to have a third artist on it (iykyk).
Who would you most want to collaborate with?
Jane Remover, Riovaz, Jacko.
What’s next for you?
New music. Lots of new music.
What are you trying to say with your music?
It really varies from song to song, but the big overarching point is that you can really just be whoever you want to be.
Why should someone who has never heard of you press play today?
Don’t. My music sucks. I’m a little shit.
