“from shuffle to 50k: how oftentimes found his sound”
oftentimes found wifiskeleton on spotify shuffle in 2024 and posted his first song in november 2025. he talks about making songs in the moment, ignoring the haters, and his first album.
How and when did you get into making music
I had been messing around with fl studio since 2021, I first made pluggnb and indie bedroom pop beats but they were lowkey ass. Since 2021 I have been going on 3 month sessions trying to lock in with FL Studio almost once a year. Then in 2024 I found wifiskeleton through the Spotify shuffle while I was listening to beabadoobee. Then I started making covers of wifiskeleton and overtonight songs but never posted them and in november 2025 i posted my first song on oftentimes.
And was there a moment you knew you wanted to take music seriously?
I think I decided to take music seriously when I hit 50k monthly, idk what my thought process was but I kinda saw a job opportunity through this music and I really believed it was do-able,
"Criticism is key. Fake people ain't gonna help you improve." oftentimes
What does a song look like for you, from first idea to finish?
a song to me is a "made in the moment" type thing. I listen to the beat and I kinda sort a color to what I'm feeling when I hear it, then I choose a topic based on the feel and color I'm thinking of. lyrics are mostly made up on the spot and I'm pretty sure most people can tell when they listen to my songs.
What’s your favorite song that you’ve made, and why?
My favorite song I've made has to be "Hometown Girl", I remember it was when I had just spent a day or 2 recording with and watching THE Steven Faulkner make music in the flesh. I took a few notes from watching his recording process. I kinda put all I could think of into that song and I love how it turned out.
What are you trying to say with your music?
I don't really have a message in each song I post. What I like to do is promote and encourage people to post their own music. Artists really gotta stop caring about what others think too much, if someone makes fun of you for doing a hobby, they are straight up just a loser. What would you think of someone if they saw others painting or selling commission artwork and saying "WAGWAN CRODIE, dems bare weirdos fr fr for being able to paint n draw". I would be scared because they are most likely Canadian.
What’s the best feedback you’ve ever gotten on your music?
Probably to give up or keep it hidden, criticism is key, fake people aint gonna help you improve.
If you could play one show anywhere, with anyone, where would it be?
Probably 2017 Rolling loud, I would tell YBN Nahmir to not make Soul Train
What does success look like for you?
Success to me would be having the ability to not only support myself but also my friends and family. along with the ability to raise a child and not have them worry about any expenses (aint spoiling lil jit tho)
What’s next for you: new music, shows, or collaborations?
Fans can definitely expect my first album coming out, I want it to be almost perfect in my eyes, not too sure about shows. I also am starting to look into dropping merch so they should keep their eyes peeled for that.
Who would you most want to collaborate with?
I don't think there is any one person I aim to collaborate with, but I do know if I was offered a collab with Jacko I would take it in a heartbeat.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it?
My sound is a very specific niche in indie, you either love it or you hate it, I haven't met someone who is truly inbetween.
Why should someone who has never heard of you press play on your music today?
idk, if you want to you can find me as oftentimes on all plats, if not thats chill
